NILADRI KUMAR is the son and disciple of sitar maestro Pandit Kartick Kumar and the 5th generation in a line of prodigal Sitarists. He started learning the Sitar at the tender age of four and gave his first public performance at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry at the age of six.
His career promises to be both illustrious and innovative. Years of training have exposed him to and enriched his music with the artistic aspects and nuances of diverse gharana styles. His distinctive style is strongly rooted in classical musical traditions, which appeal to the orthodox as well as progressive music lovers.
A rare instrumentalist, he is widely considered one of his generations' brightest stars.
A recipient of numerous awards including the Sanskriti Award, Niladri also boasts the MTV IMMIES in the best Classical/Fusion Instrumental album category for his album titled 'IF'. In March 2007, he won the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi's Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for Instrumental Hindustani Music.
He has over 10 albums with international acclaim followed by performances in Europe, US, Canada, Middle East, Far East, Japan, South Africa etc and also in India. |
